"FILIPINO FAMILIES"
1) Techy
- with the technological advancement that each individual is a part of today, families often benefit through the use of social networking. Most commonly, members of the family use facebook as a medium in order to connect, become updated with each other's lives, share thoughts, etc. Because of this, average Filipino families are often spotted going around trying new things, from what they've seen online.
2) Close family ties
- Filipino families, even up to date, give importance to the union of each member with another; each lives together or at least meets from time time. Filipinos are known for having an optimistic view of life, and what's heartwarming is that they claim to prioritize family when it comes to labelling the ones they hold dear.
3) Dependent on one another
- Compared to other countries, Filipino families are more reliant to one another in their daily household errands and responsiblities. They are not afraid to ask for help from other people, whether the favor be small or big. More often than not, one family member is considered to be the breadwinner of the family. That is why Filipinos have the initiative to lend a helping hand, if not otherwise.
4) Always together in events
- Filipino families are seen celebrating occassions such as birthdays, successes in school and work, anniversaries, annual reunions, Simbang Gabi, Christmas, New Year, etc. Filipinos see to it that as long as you are related, your company is mandatory. This way, they create bonds through doing activities while having fun altogether.
5) Pamamanhikan
- Filipino families today give importance to courtship, but in a more modernize version. Because we have adapted to the ways of socializing of other foreign countries, it is easier to meet someone you want to be involved with. However, even up to date relationships in the Philippines are considered to be in decency especially if the man went to the woman's family to ask for her hand in marriage.
6) Greeting
- As a form of courtesy, Filipino family members are expected to greet each other with a "mano po", yet as society has evolved, today more of a kiss on the cheek. This not only shows respect to your elderly or any other age group, but it also proves a sign of value that you were raised to possess.
7) "Tita ng pinsan ng pinsan ko"
- The funny thing about Filipinos is that they acknowledge distant relatives as extended family members. Whether you are third cousins or fourth with someone, you are still regarded by them as family. The advantage of this is that it enables people with more connections. What's more fun than more relationships that you have to take care of?
8) Mani, kape, baraha
- during the death of a family member, families gather together with traditional foods, usually filipinos got used to play gambling, eating nuts, drinking coffee, chatting with relatives for their past times. They do this to let them entertain themselves while they're in sorrow. In this moment, we become closer to one another.
